GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --- The Chicago Wolves rallied for the second straight game, this time defeating the division-leading Grand Rapids Griffins 4-2 Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena.
Center Alexandre Bolduc paced the Wolves offense with two goals, while wingers Dmitrij Jaskin and Ty Rattie chipped in with third period markers. Goaltender Jake Allen (10-6-2) turned away 27 shots to earn the win and help snap Grand Rapids seven-game win streak.
Chicago (12-10-0-2) pressured Grand Rapids from the opening faceoff, and it paid off with the first goal of the night. Bolduc, in front of the net with teammate Chris Porter, found the rebound from a point shot and chipped it over McCollum’s glove for a 1-0 lead 10:02 into the game.
The second period ushered in a momentum swing as Grand Rapids (17-5-1-1) dominated with 16 shots and two goals. Left wing Jeff Hoggan intercepted a Wolves pass at the top of the zone and snapped a quick shot over the glove of Allen at 11:03.
The Griffins went ahead at 16:33 while on a two-man advantage. Center Riley Sheahan received the puck at the top of the right faceoff dot and blasted a well-placed shot over Allen’s short-side shoulder.
Bolduc scored his second of the night to even the score 2-2 at 17:20 of the middle frame. Defenseman David Shields sent an outlet pass to Bolduc, who carried the puck up the ice and moved in on McCollum while being shrouded by multiple defenders. After an attempted pass was knocked down, Bolduc became tied up with the Griffins defenders in the crease as the puck slid by McCollum.
Knotted going into the third period, Chicago broke the tie with a power-play tally from Jaskin. The rookie collected a rebound on a shot from the blue line and tapped it into a gaping net past McCollum (7-3-0), who made 22 saves.
Rattie continued his late-game success, finishing off a wraparound attempt from Jaskin for his team-leading ninth goal of the season. As Jaskin moved behind the cage with a Griffins defender draped on him, Rattie crashed the net and poked the puck over the goal line.
The Wolves head south to face the Texas Stars at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at Cedar Park Center.
